Hello world, I know it's been a while since I updated this site and posted on here so with the release of Opus 5.5 I was curious about it's front end abilities, this was the result.
Overall I am very happy with the added quality and just overall professionalism compared to the previous version of BeeBlog. So welcome to the new layout and design!
What I've been up to
I have been hard at a work mostly driven towards internal projects for our company at the moment, and have not had much time to focus on updating my outside of work websites. I have been mastering what a modern AI driven workflow looks like my integrating AI into my everyday lifestyle. That is a lot of slop to say I use Claude Desktop daily and pay for the $100 plan. What that looks like in practice is a well versed agent specific to my needs and trained on my data. I use the Claude Obsidian brain to keep running memories between sessions and hard rules of what to follow accross all different projects. I store this brain in a Nextcloud synced folder between computers and work seamlessly between machines with Claude already having full prior knoedge of what to do and what not to do. This is helpful to keep Claude from repeatedly trying to slam a login with the wrong password. Or keep a running log of IP's that belong to your serves and what SSH to use to which. Now that I have integrated AI into my workflow I am able to more work as a Commander type role of being the smart person in the room who really knows the network while Claude rules out the obvious for me. I could ask Claude
"Is somebody creating a loop in our network" and Claude knows the switches and routers to log into to check for mac addresses. This compounding knowledge is what allows me to leverage AI easier and quicker into my everyday workflows and get to the final answer quicker. This also helps save tokens, next time Claude remembers this old switch is SSHv1 only and uses the proper old Ubuntu docker container to overcome now , instead of wasting precious reasoning on 'how do I get into an old SSHv1 machine'.
Vibe coding vs Agentic Engineering?
For me as somebody who graduated high school in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, then saw ChatGPT release a year later, it revolutionized how I learn and how I tackle coding and software engineering tasks.
I started learning HTML as early as 10, making simple HTML sites to showcase my dog. I always had a passion for tech, always watching YouTuber's like LTT, and MKBHD growing up in the 2010's and as I grew up I wanted to pursue some path that would get me into the world of tech. I never came naturally to coding, while I could install Windows, setup a Linux server, rice my desktop, python never came just naturally to me like learning what processor the Samsung Galaxy S6 had inside it. It never hooked me the same way a sexy new Macbook did. So I was always slower to learn in my coding abilities. For the longest time I just wanted something that "I can do IT, but not coding" and eventually I learned, nobody really loves the process of seeing yourself forget a comma on line 41 breaking your entire logic. That was apart of the fun of it all, but as ChatGPT released one of the first things I thought to do with it was "I bet it could make an awesome template website for me" and then I can just go in and change all the wording. That was the downfall of it all. Since then BeeBlog what you see today was born, turning my first Javascript project into a long running blog that I have migrated the back end for I think 4 times now. From .json, to Pocketbase, to Prisma, to Docker + Prisma, BeeBlog has had it's roots uplifted multiple times as I've got along in my journey.
Then as the years went on, the models got smarter, and I went from ChatGPT copy and paste in a browser, to Cursor approving lines of code edits, while still hand writing most of it, and adding components from places like Shadcn.
Then we went from Cursor showing me lines of code changes, to Claude start to finish shipping products. Claude was the real game changer, around the time of Opus 4.6 we shifted from a word of 'human in the loop' to 'human prompted, AI delivered' where Claude did most to all of the coding.
This new word feels perfect for me, someone who entered my tech journey around 2020, never fully learned to code, yet am as powerful today if not more powerful than my friends who dedicated themselves to learning Next JS fundamentals. I find due to my AI driven workflows I have been able to achieve opportunities, work faster, and chase harder than my colleagues who were more hesitant about AI usage and AI driven development.
Why this take is probably controversial:
Yea I know, old ass 40 year old legacy GNU guys are going to eat my ass saying "You don't know how your code works" and "You are just a monkey delivering AI slop" but yet I see the products I've shipped with AI, tools our business uses on a daily basis, and for a day recently my tools went down due to my own error and I have multiple people come to me during that time as they had become so reliant on my tooling to improve their productivity that going back to the old ways when my tool was down for an hour really showed our team how dependent we have become on my AI tooling. This is real tooling, that helps real people. Code that does, exactly what I told it to do. It's become an invaluable part of our company resources now. All I did was create an aggregation dashboard for all the information that was already out there, yet it significantly speeds up workflows and improves efficiency in the workplace. AI gives me the power to turn my efficiency gaining ideas into a practical reality fast. We're past the point of dummy slop code that doesn't work without 5 hours of re-prompting, I'm talking about 1 shotting a full stack app start to finish here. We have entered a new age of AI driven development, and I want to stay ahead of the curve.
