# How to Set Up the Ubiquiti NanoStation Loco

> This guide will share with you the at times troubling process of setting up the Ubiquiti NanoStation Loco devices

This guide will share with you the at times troubling process of setting up the Ubiquiti NanoStation Loco devices. Ubiquiti is not great at making working user interfaces so this guide will share with you which settings to disable out of the box in order to allow the two devices to transmit and recive data between them. Ubiquity decided to enable certain half baked features that will not allow the device to connect using default settings.

## Setting up the First Device (Master)

### Step 1: Initial Set Up

- Plugin both devices using the POE
- Connect to the first Device by connecting an Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the POE adapter, then connect to the default gateway at `192.168.172.1`
- Once at the default gateway, set up the general Time settings as well as setup a password for the device

### Step 2: Set up the Master Device

*This device will receive WAN access through an Ethernet plugged into the LAN*

- Then once at the main web page, Turn on **BOTH** Access Point and PTP Mode by toggling them on

- Then Select a **Channel Width**, usually **20mhz** works best
*important, ensure that the channel width is the same for the MASTER and the SLAVE device*

- Turn on **Control Frequency List Mhz** and select all frequencies from the box below the toggle switch

- Configure an SSID

- note: this is an internal use SSID and is not visible to connect to, aka: it does not matter what you name it, but it needs to be the same across both devices

- Under **Advanced** un-select **Calculate EIRP Limit**

- Set Time Zone from

- Lastly click **Save Changes**

- Disable **ipv6** Connectivity

### Step 3: Set up the Slave

- Connect to your Slave Nano’s SSID and go to its default web gateway at `192.168.172.1`

- Then setup credentials for the Slave device like a password and Time Zone

- From the web portal, just enable **PTP** and do **NOT** enable access point mode

- Make the **SSID** the same as the **Master**

- Select a **Channel Width**, usually **20mhz** works best

- Turn on **Control Frequency List Mhz** and select **ALL** frequencies from the box below the toggle switch

- Under **Advanced** un-select **Calculate EIRP Limit**

- Disable **ipv6** Connectivity

- At this point from the main page you should see the two devices talking to each other

### Step 4: Help it’s not working

#### The steps mentioned here is everything that is supposed to make them work, but sometimes they do not communicate to each other, if that is the case here are some things to check:

- 1: Are both devices set to the same channel width? Make sure that both devices are on the same channel width like 20Mhz or 10MHz, they both need to be the same
- 2: Is the **SSID** the same on both devices? The SSID needs to be the same name on both devices in order to get them to talk to each other
- 3: Is one device in **AP** and **PTP** and the other just has **PTP** enabled? One device should be an **AP (access point)** and have **PTP** enabled whereas the other device should just have **PTP** enabled
- 4: Is **Calculate EIRP Limit** disabled on both devies?
- 5: Are both devices on the same **Firmware Version**? For some reason they will not work if both devices are not on the same Firmware Version
- 6: Are the **same frequencies** selected on the **Master** and **Slave** device? Typically it is recommended to just simply select all frequencies to avoid this being an issue.
